Colorado Wolf Pup Still Missing
Our heart breaks for this sweet baby (a) & We are all outraged after Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) stopped searching for an abandoned wolf pup left behind when its family (Copper Creek Pack) was controversially captured due to CPW succumbing to the desires of ranchers. Wolves are highly social creatures that rely on their pack for survival, and this pup now faces a harsh winter alone. CPW had spent 19 nights trying to reunite the six-month-old with its family, but halted the search, citing dropping temperatures. Despite being spotted on trail cameras, the pup must now fend for itself, facing immense challenges without the protection of a pack or guidance from its elders on how to hunt and thrive. This decision follows the relocation of the pack, where conservationists believe CPW prioritized ranchers over the wolves' safety. The wolf reintroduction program aims to restore populations while helping ranchers, but some failed to implement nonlethal coexistence measures, leading to conflict. CPW has come under fire for its handling of the wolves and has spent millions of dollars on the program, especially after the death of the pack's father, further undermining efforts to protect these vulnerable animals. If you're in Grand or Summit County and spot the pup, report sightings to CPW Hot Sulphur Springs Area office at 970-725-6200 (M-F, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.)
